Winter Soldier
Finished up the Winter Soldier mini from the Black Panther expansion. Even though he technically dropped in Season 1, I yanked Bucky out of cryo to paint him alongside the other Thunderbolts. Gotta keep the brooding anti-heroes together, right?
Marvel really has a thing for metal arms. Bucky, Cable, Deathlok, Cyborg Spider-Man, Gladiator Hulk (if he’s feeling spicy). At this point I feel like having a cybernetic limb is just the Marvel's version of a tattoo.
This was also my first time using basing materials! Bit of dirt texture, some tufts of grass... nothing fancy, but man it makes the mini pop. Big thanks to @dkthomas11 and @barbara__thomas for hooking me up with the good stuff! Now Bucky’s not just standing dramatically, he’s standing dramatically IN TERRAIN.
I tried to go for that dark, gritty look. Stealthy enough to sneak through a Hydra base, but still pop on the table. Shiny arm? Check. Haunted stare? Check. Poor life choices? Also check.

The full guide
- Your first 10 minis: a better beginner roadmap →Just get started. Give each early mini one job, don't be precious about them, and let photos show you the progress.
- Basing as composition, not decoration →A good base supports the pose, tells a bit of the story, and points the eye at the face. Then it gets out of the way.
