Tomb Kings in black and gold
The desert does not forget. It waits… and when it rises, it does so in black and gold. ☀️💀
My full Tomb Kings squad, reanimated in full Pittsburgh Steelers colors. Ancient rulers of Nehekhara might question the palette choice… but if you’re going to command an undead legion, you might as well do it in black and gold. The armor leans warm and bright, the cloth and shields ground it in deep, desaturated blacks, and together they read like a Sunday in the AFC North, just with more skeletal commitment.
Seeing them ranked up together hits differently. This project pushed me into true batch and army painting mode, which is still new territory for me. I’m used to treating each mini like a standalone character study. Here, I had to rethink the process, work in stages, simplify decisions, and prioritize consistency across the unit. It forced me to ask, where does contrast matter most, where can I streamline, how do I keep momentum without sacrificing quality? I’m still learning, still iterating, but this felt like a real shift in how I approach larger forces.
The bases were a blast too. Desert grit, scattered rocks and scrub… and then crisp field lines painted straight over the terrain, like the grounds crew just shrugged and ran the chalk right across the logs. It’s subtle, a little ridiculous, and exactly the kind of hobby joy I’m here for.
From character spotlights to full themed armies, process evolving one squad at a time.
